December 8, 2003                        Back to chat
This chat was on clippings from Oz due to GarlandGrl's blunders and took place on December 9, 2002.

You have just entered room
"NelsonAndJeanette."
MamaLion27 has entered the room.
GarlandGrl: Hi Dorothy :-)
KathrynGraysonFn has entered the room.
GarlandGrl: Hi Kayla :0)
KathrynGraysonFn: Aloha
MamaLion27: Hi, Ginny. I am here at least for the moment.
GarlandGrl: Okie dokie :-)
KathrynGraysonFn: What's the topic?
GarlandGrl: Collectibles
GarlandGrl: :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: Good, not Australia
again. No offense to Australia or
anything
GarlandGrl: Awww ;-)
MamaLion27: A subject i am sorely short
of..but I do have Nelson's records..Bea
Musick's entire collection!
KathrynGraysonFn: At least a lot of us
know what to bring up when talking
about collectibles!
GarlandGrl: Oh my goodness! Kayla just
added the concert favorites 78's to my
collection *grins*
KathrynGraysonFn: Did you get to
listen to them yet?
GarlandGrl: Yup :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: The condition
looked REALLY good to me, but how
did they sound?
GarlandGrl: Really good :-)
GarlandGrl: LOL
KathrynGraysonFn: yay!
GarlandGrl: You're a good judge!
GarlandGrl: ;-)
MamaLion27: I haven't gotten to listen to
any of these. I have 33 1/3, 45's and
78's...but no turntable!
GarlandGrl: Awwwwww
KathrynGraysonFn: You should see my
Meet Me In St Louis 78's... they
look like oversized coasters...
GarlandGrl: LOL :-)
MamaLion27: Here's hoping Santa got my
message!
GarlandGrl: Alas and alack... you need a turn
table... so we can see you on the flip side.
GarlandGrl: :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: I begged my mom
for a record player eons ago when
she brought home a Lovely To Look
At soundtrack...
KathrynGraysonFn: "You know who that
is?! You know what I don't have?!"
GarlandGrl: Awww... I got another one
recently, my old one's needle had problems.
DIXC has entered the room.
GarlandGrl: Hi Dick! :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: My first Jeanette
thing was a set of 45's.
MamaLion27: I am hoping for that Crosley
model that plays all 3 speeds.
KathrynGraysonFn: And that was
before I was a fan. I was so glad
that I had them when I fully
discovered her.
DIXC: Hi! Thanks for the invite.:-)
MamaLion27: Yes, Jeanette is included in
this collection, too.
KathrynGraysonFn: Mine only plays 2
speeds... :-(
GarlandGrl: Ahhhh, yeah! That would be
great! I need to figure out a better way to
get them onto my computer. I have cables,
but it didn't work with my other computer, I
haven't tried it with my new laptop yet.
GarlandGrl: You're quite welcome, Dick!
;-)
KathrynGraysonFn: I need to find
cables...
KathrynGraysonFn: I wonder how Sally
does the cd's.
Dugan EK has entered the room.
DIXC: ;-)
GarlandGrl: You should ask ;-) ;-)
KathrynGraysonFn: I should...
GarlandGrl: Hello Eleanor :-D
MamaLion27: Hi, Eleanor.
Dugan EK: Hell0 -- my computer says I've
performed an illegal operation -- I hope I'm
not thrown off line --
GarlandGrl: (Sally Sherman, Kathryn
Grayson's secretary, for those who have no
clue who we're talking about)
GarlandGrl: Awww
GarlandGrl: :-D
DIXC: Good your here Eleanor:-)
GarlandGrl: But you're hear now!
KathrynGraysonFn: here?
KathrynGraysonFn: hehe
GarlandGrl: Oops
GarlandGrl: My bad...
GarlandGrl: I'm old remember........
KathrynGraysonFn: Haha
MamaLion27: Never let age get you
down!:-P
GarlandGrl: So Eleanor, what special
collectibles do you have?
Dugan EK: My daughter just walked in the
door from Washington D.C. -- EARLY!!
(Last Christmas she was 40 hours late due
to storms.)
Dugan EK: Well, my favorite collectible is --
GarlandGrl: I'm going to be 21 tomorrow and
I'm rebelling.. I refuse. I'm going to be 99
all my life.
GarlandGrl: Awww
GarlandGrl: 8-)
Dugan EK: My copy of "Jeanette
MacDonald?" -- the 1931 French scandal
book about her affair with the Belgian
prince.
GarlandGrl: It's been fairly beautiful here...
considering all the rain we've been having.
KathrynGraysonFn: Oooooh! I'd love to
see that. Just for curiosity's sake
GarlandGrl: LOL
MamaLion27: HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
GINNY!O:-)
GarlandGrl: Thanks!!
GarlandGrl: *still in denial*
KathrynGraysonFn: I'm not going to
acknowledge Ginny's birthday.
GarlandGrl: Thanks :-D
GarlandGrl: LOL
KathrynGraysonFn: We shall celebrate
someone else's birthday, like I
celebrae Van Johnson's rather than
mine.
KathrynGraysonFn: But- Back to the
subject at hand...
Dugan EK: Cheers, Ginny --
GarlandGrl: 8-)
DIXC: Happy Birthday.:-)
GarlandGrl: Thanks, Dick!
GarlandGrl: Anyway... I dunno... I think my
favorite possessions now are the films and
recordings and then after that are the
autographs.
GarlandGrl: Just because..... I'm silly :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: Autographs
schmautographs. Give me records!
MamaLion27: Oh, I also have two editions
of Radio Guide from 1936 with interviews
of Nelson.
KathrynGraysonFn: hehe
GarlandGrl: I said films and recordings first
;-)
GarlandGrl: Awwww... do you have that one
with the really cute picture on the front of
Nelson?
GarlandGrl: LOL
GarlandGrl: Like none of them are cute.......
KathrynGraysonFn has left the room.
GarlandGrl: I can't remember which year it's
from, which is a first... because I've been
looking for it.
MamaLion27: Nope. Missed that one but I
have the interview where he says "goodbye
to romance"!
GarlandGrl: Awww
MamaLion27: He was sick of all the gossip
linking him to starlets.
GarlandGrl: Articles are fun to read... :-D
KathrynGraysonFn has entered the room.
Dugan EK: Besides videos and audios, I
LOVE my movie stills -- one gets to study
the costumes, which are my passion.
KathrynGraysonFn: AOL is quite
possibly the devil.
DIXC: One of my favorites is the LIFE
Magazine with the front cover from
9/27/37 of Nelson Eddy. FRONT
COVER of the biggest magazine of that
time.
GarlandGrl: Awww :-D I got that recently,
too Dick!
KathrynGraysonFn: I had a chance to
get it, but I opted for Judy
instead... sorry Nelson!
MamaLion27: Oh, how I wish I was
collecting for much longer. I have missed
so much.
GarlandGrl: The first thing I ever got was the
still from Maytime, that I use as the
backgrounds for my site.
KathrynGraysonFn: The first picture I
got was one from Bittersweet.
DIXC: My most unusual is a 4 hour radio
show about Nelson
MamaLion27: However, I have had so many
stills, tapes and CDs sent to me I am
eternally grateful.
GarlandGrl: It was the only picture in the
folder *gasp* And now I've banned myself
from collecting pictures for a while because
Miss Eleanor and Anita McCreery have
added to my collection so much. :-D I'm
amazed how fast my collection has
GarlandGrl: grown in four years.
KathrynGraysonFn: I don't think I have
anything unusual... unless you call
farewell to dreams unusual.
KathrynGraysonFn: 4 years? I went
from 1 picture of Kathryn Grayson
to over 50 in a few months!
KathrynGraysonFn: *not addicted*
MamaLion27: The song? or that book,
Kayla?
GarlandGrl: HA HA HA HA HA :-D I
know... I was with you when you bought
most of it.
Dugan EK: My daughter Jill says "hello" --
KathrynGraysonFn: The book, Dorothy
KathrynGraysonFn: Hello, Jill
GarlandGrl: Hello Jill! :o)
DIXC: Chuck Scaden "Those were the
days" on Radio WNIB on April 3, 1993.
It is two cassetts of one hour each side
of a very fine progam about Nelson.
GarlandGrl: Awww
KathrynGraysonFn: I love the radio
shows I have. The old Lux Theatre
GarlandGrl: That sounds neat, Dick. :o)
GarlandGrl: Oh yeah! I've got Smilin
Through and Bittersweet on record...
KathrynGraysonFn: Lux flakes prevent
sloppy runs!
GarlandGrl: And I was able to download a
lot of them...
MamaLion27: I am so envious of all of you.
KathrynGraysonFn: I've got Irene,
Maytime, and Smilin Through.
KathrynGraysonFn: Awww
Dugan EK: I thought it was both sad and
funny that Archipenko in the wartime Lux
Radio show became an Italian --
GarlandGrl: I know it!! LOL
KathrynGraysonFn: I never understood
turning him Italian. There's
Mussolini!
MamaLion27: Oh. I have those on record,
too. I have just received this record
collection and I am apt to forget some of
them.
Dugan EK: Somehow it wasn't as horrible
being Italian --
KathrynGraysonFn: Fair enough
DIXC: My first collection was from an
estate of a big dead fan of Nelson, with
many pictures and info about Nelson
KathrynGraysonFn: Let's see... Oh!
Sheet Music is a big thing with me
KathrynGraysonFn: Even though I can't
read it, or carry a tune in a bucket
Dugan EK: I can't either, but I love the
covers.
KathrynGraysonFn: Oh yes
GarlandGrl: Awww :-) It's amazing how
many things fans collect... seeing other
collections as well.
GarlandGrl: Kayla, you can sing........... I
think you can. :-P
KathrynGraysonFn: And I have my girl
Of The Golden West poster.
KathrynGraysonFn: *Girl
KathrynGraysonFn: Does anyone else
have posters?
GarlandGrl: I've got lots of sheet music, too.
My lastest addition is At The Balalaika.
Dugan EK: I have posters that have been
waiting 30 years until I can afford toi have
them framed. About $250 each was the
original estimate because they need special
glass, being so big.
KathrynGraysonFn: As you can see, I
have this problem with buying too
much on ebay
DIXC: I have a nice collection of all the
songs he ever sang in a beautiful
notebook.
GarlandGrl: I'm afraid I don't, we have
expensive posters... the one I saw for San
Francisco was over $200.
KathrynGraysonFn: Wow! I have 27x41
whih i put in a $30 frame
KathrynGraysonFn: Well, I got a
reprint from 1963, but that's still
almost 40 years old!
MamaLion27: I made a solemn promise to
my family to keep away from E-Bay but I
think such promises must have limits.
KathrynGraysonFn: I kept my ebay
under control for about a month
before going to Hollywood...
GarlandGrl: LOL... I bid against Kayla
once... ;-) She ended up sending me The
Nelson pictures in the collection for Jeanette
tapes.
KathrynGraysonFn: and for a couple of
months after, but now I'm spending
moneylike Ive got it
KathrynGraysonFn: I remember that!
All I wanted was one picture
GarlandGrl: HA HA HA :-D
GarlandGrl: Yup
KathrynGraysonFn: It's on my wall... my
ever disappearing wall
MamaLion27: Diane has made some great
finds on ebay.
Dugan EK: Happily, I've never bought
anything on ebay -- I go look at the lists and
want to bid on almost everything -- it's so
fortunately that I'm beautiful instead of rich!
(As my daughter jokes.)
MamaLion27: That bust in particular!
GarlandGrl: I've been trying to get everything
from collectibles shows... just because it's
cheaper - you don't have to worry about
shipping or the bidding frenzy.
KathrynGraysonFn: Collectibles
Shows... *sigh*
GarlandGrl: Awww ;-) Yeah! And...
and... the make-up case!!
GarlandGrl: We're going to clone Nelson
some day... it'll be fun...
KathrynGraysonFn: Didn't it end up
having a dead bug in it?
KathrynGraysonFn: Free stuff!
GarlandGrl: I didn't see that... but I have seen
it :-D
MamaLion27: I was even looking in old
shops in Ireland for Nelson..but no luck!
Dugan EK: At 5:30 I'm going to say adieu
and Merry Christmas. My daughter is still on
east coast time and starving, so I need to
start dinner.
GarlandGrl: Awwww
GarlandGrl: Okie dokie... we'll miss you!
KathrynGraysonFn: I'm afraid I've
milked this town of everything
Jeanette and Kathryn Grayson
related
DIXC: Give her some shortning bread
Dugan EK: I have friends in France who
occasionally find a Jeanette item in shops
there -- because of her films with Chevalier.
GarlandGrl: Good one, Dick! :-D
MamaLion27: Good thinking, Dick!
DIXC: ;-)
MamaLion27: I will have to take more trips
over there and see if I can find some.
Dugan EK: I THINK shortning bread was
made with lard and she is a vegetarian.
KathrynGraysonFn: Thanks, because
now that song will be in my head for
a few days
Dugan EK: Just think of the Mexican Hat
Dance -- that will drive it out of your mind.
GarlandGrl: LOL
KathrynGraysonFn: haha
GarlandGrl: Or The Kerry Dance... that
drives everything out of my mind.
GarlandGrl: :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: Haha, I usually use
The Jewel Song.
KathrynGraysonFn: It's sad that I've
listened to it so many times that I
can lip sync and make it look like I
know the words...
KathrynGraysonFn: Because I know the
"sounds that she makes"
GarlandGrl: LOL
KathrynGraysonFn: Let's see here...
GarlandGrl: I ordered the Nelson/Gale CD
from Diane and recieved it last week...
Nelson was hillarious at mocking other
singers. The man was just brilliant.
GarlandGrl: I never would have expected him
to sing "Dayo" or "Come-on-a-my House"
KathrynGraysonFn: Come On-A My
House? I love that song!
KathrynGraysonFn: Even "sang" it to a
waiter as a joke once... but that a
whole other story
Dugan EK: Well, I'm off to fix lemon-rice and
green beans -- take care everyone!!
Happy, happy!! Talk to you next week.
GarlandGrl: Me too! O:-) Even though
Rosemary Clooney thought it was evil...
KathrynGraysonFn: Bye!
GarlandGrl: You too!! :o) Byeeee!
KathrynGraysonFn: It is evil!
DIXC: If you don't tell anyone else; I have
that paper doll set for Nelson and J
where you can change their clothes.; ha
ha.
KathrynGraysonFn: It's so evil its
funny!
Dugan EK has left the room.
KathrynGraysonFn: I have the paper
dolls!
GarlandGrl: Awww... I only have the Judy
book one ;-)
GarlandGrl: But I have seen them :-)
KathrynGraysonFn: Even with my
prudish-ish nature, I can claim to
have Nelson and Jeanette in their
underwear
MamaLion27: Sorry, group. I will have to
catch up. The take-out dinners arrived and
I had to get Jan something to eat.
GarlandGrl: Kayla, you silly ;-)
GarlandGrl: Aww :0) Okie
KathrynGraysonFn: Just as long as I
don't aquire any more pictures
resembling fishies and affectionate
puppies, I'll be fine.
GarlandGrl: :-)
MamaLion27: I know there are many more
lovely treasures out there in someone's
dusty attic.
KathrynGraysonFn: Yeah, I really
shouldn't bring up inside jokes and
assume that everyone won't think
I'm crazy
GarlandGrl: Yeah! Maybe some more
Nelson paintings... anyone who has one of
those or a sculpture is quite lucky!
GarlandGrl: :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: *sigh* The only
places where Nelson or Jeanette
appeared in this town have been
demolished
GarlandGrl: Awww
MamaLion27: Oh, I would love to have the
time to wander around flea markets and
old shops. All I need are wheels..with a car
on top!
KathrynGraysonFn: haha
GarlandGrl: I go to places all the time and
don't realize they've been there... like
Stanford... took me a while to figure out that
one.
GarlandGrl: I want to go to the SF opera
house ::sigh:: Some day...
KathrynGraysonFn: I stood on the
corner where the theatre was that
Jeanette was at
KathrynGraysonFn: And yelled at the
bank that's there now...
MamaLion27: Please don't tell me my trip to
SF and LA will be in vain?
GarlandGrl: Awww
GarlandGrl: Nope ;-)
GarlandGrl: You'll see a lot, Dorothy! :-)
MamaLion27: By the time I get there I may
need a seeing eye dog!
KathrynGraysonFn: A trip to those
areas is never a disappointment...
even if the vacant lot down the
street from the hotel DOES smell of
urine
GarlandGrl: Especially if you contact Helen
Crawford and go to the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences.......... and, and...
USC... :-D
GarlandGrl: LOL......... yeah
GarlandGrl: Hollywood isn't all glamour...
GarlandGrl: But... it's coming back ;-)
KathrynGraysonFn: A-yep
KathrynGraysonFn: I do hope that the
horrible picture of marilyn stays.
KathrynGraysonFn: that was priceless
MamaLion27: Well, I am hoping to make it
over there in the spring. I will be in Seattle
and hop down from there.
GarlandGrl: Do pictures of places count? I
have a picture of myself at Nelson's grave
for the first time all melancholy... I really did
shed a few tears.
GarlandGrl: Placing a flower too.... while my
Mother and my cousin laughed at me!!
KathrynGraysonFn: Pictures of places
should count.
GarlandGrl: Okie
MamaLion27: I'll bring a camera!
KathrynGraysonFn: Jeanette's prints
and I are hanging up at work
GarlandGrl: And... and... I've seen most of
Nelson's homes... and Kayla and I saw the
roof of Twin Gables.
GarlandGrl: Awww
KathrynGraysonFn: *I* saw more of the
roof than Ginny
GarlandGrl: Everytime I go to Grauman's I
have to take another picture...
GarlandGrl: That's true :-P
MamaLion27: Who lives there now?
KathrynGraysonFn: *puts hands in
pockets and whistles*
DIXC: Pictures should count. After all HE
was in PICTRESO:-)
KathrynGraysonFn: Someone who doesnt
like Jeanette fans hounding them
GarlandGrl: LOL
GarlandGrl: Yeah, they built a really large
fence...
KathrynGraysonFn: I think the fence
has always been there, but they put
tarps around the iron gate entrance
so people can't see in
GarlandGrl: And you can only see the roof
well when climbing a certain fence *watches
kayla put hands in her pockets and whistles
with her*
MamaLion27: Party-poopers!
GarlandGrl: Yeah!
KathrynGraysonFn: But Giny's car
touched Judy's driveway
KathrynGraysonFn: *Ginny
GarlandGrl: YEAH!!! :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: Those people must
be crazy. Don't they know what kind
of fans Judy has?
GarlandGrl: I know... seriously...
GarlandGrl: Well, we didn't knock on doors
or anything...
KathrynGraysonFn: But some of them
would!
GarlandGrl: I did, however, go into Nelson's
backyard at NETop with fellow Nelson
fans...
GarlandGrl: That was brave of me :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: haha
GarlandGrl: And illegal....
GarlandGrl: But you know... I can do one
illegal action a year and still be a goody,
goody.
MamaLion27: Goodness., Kayla. That
almost equals my youthful experience of
catching Lawrence Welk in his shorts while
trying to get Dennis Morgan's autograph.
KathrynGraysonFn: haha
GarlandGrl: Ha ha ha
KathrynGraysonFn: Me? What? I don't
climb fences to see people's houses.
No... never...
MamaLion27: I promised faithfully not to
crawl into windows again.
GarlandGrl: LOL
KathrynGraysonFn: Or crawl under
ropes to take pictures...
GarlandGrl: Yup... ropes... to "see"
Jeanette...
GarlandGrl: And Gene
GarlandGrl: And Nat King Cole... and...
and... who else is right there?
GarlandGrl: LOL
GarlandGrl: Oh, Alan Ladd...
KathrynGraysonFn: I have made it a
note never to climb the fence at
2009 La Mesa Drive, however.
Vicious dog attacks don't appeal to
me.
GarlandGrl: LOL
KathrynGraysonFn: I rather like not
having tooth marks in my posterior,
thank you.
MamaLion27: I often wondered if anyone
ever gave medals for bravery to
hard-working fans!
GarlandGrl: I think they should give one to
Valerie... have you ever heard stories of her
Nelson adventures?
KathrynGraysonFn: Haha, a former
president of Kathryn grayson's fan
club wanted to mary her, and he
climbed the fence only to be greeted
by a bite in the rear by one of her
dogs
MamaLion27: I haven't heard about Valerie!
KathrynGraysonFn: That, my friends, is
why I won't be climbing that fence.
KathrynGraysonFn: And the whoe
tresspassing thing is bad, too
GarlandGrl: Oh my goodness! Apparently
she basically stalked Nelson... she watched
him from the street.. and followed him on all
of his tours with other a couple other Nelson
fans.
KathrynGraysonFn: *whole
KathrynGraysonFn: Jeez!
GarlandGrl: Someone said that in one of the
Australian recordings... he says "Where's
Valerie!?"
MamaLion27: She must have been a very
busy girl..and wealthy!
GarlandGrl: I know someone could tell this
story better than me!! But it just amazes me
so! She got stills that MGM just threw
away of Nelson... lucky girl, very lucky girl.
KathrynGraysonFn: awww
MamaLion27: Tasteless MGM!
GarlandGrl: Like there was ever a bad shot
of Nelson......... HA!
GarlandGrl: :-D
KathrynGraysonFn: tee hee
MamaLion27: I have been playing Nelson's
Christmas songs today (and his other stuff,
too) and driving the family mad.
GarlandGrl: Awww... :-)
KathrynGraysonFn: Well kids, I need to
go work on wrapping presents and
putting Kathryn in my new
scrapbook.
MamaLion27: Grandmothers must make a
stand now and then
GarlandGrl: I do that often... I use The Indian
Love Call to my advantage :-D
DIXC: What is the topic for next week?
KathrynGraysonFn: g'night!
GarlandGrl: Not sure yet ;-) Any
suggestions?
MamaLion27: Your problem is mine in
reverse!
GarlandGrl: LOL
GarlandGrl: Night Kayla :-)
MamaLion27: Nite, Kayla.
DIXC: Bye:-)
MamaLion27: Bye Dick. I guess we will have
to put the topic up for discussion.
GarlandGrl: Yup ;-)
KathrynGraysonFn has left the room.
DIXC: How about "Your 3 favorite songs
of N & J"?:-\
MamaLion27: Oops, sorry Dick.
GarlandGrl: That could work ;-)
GarlandGrl: We probably all have different
favorites... :o)
MamaLion27: I'll buy that.
GarlandGrl: Thank goodess we have you
here :-)
DIXC: But I do :-)have to leave. Happy
Holidays to all. See you next week.
GarlandGrl: You too! Byeeee! :o)
MamaLion27: Merry Christmas, Dick
DIXC: Merry Christmas!:-)
DIXC has left the room.
MamaLion27: I better go, too, The take-out
is almost gone and I didn't get mine, yet!
GarlandGrl: Awww ;-) Okie! Bye
Dorothy!
GarlandGrl: Merry Christmas :-D
