December 15, 2002                                Back to Chat
This chat was an open one looking at generations

You have just entered room
"NelsonAndJeanette."
Alicefaye3: She'll be here in a moment
GarlandGrl: I'm back :-D
GarlandGrl: Thank you!
MamaLion27: She won't find a topic in
there!
MamaLion27: Be advised..my machine is
ultra slow and the shift key doesn't work
very well!
GarlandGrl: LOL ;-) I got updated... no, I
don't think so...
GarlandGrl: Ahhh
GarlandGrl: So, topics...
GarlandGrl: Any suggestions?
GarlandGrl: Any ideas on how to get Diane's
new CD out there?! I think it's really cool
that she was able to get Gale's approval!
MamaLion27: I will put it in my next issue
with the picture if Diane doesn't mind.
DIXC: Can't we mail her a check to get
ours.
MamaLion27: That's what I plan to do
ASAP!
DIXC: Hope it is not the same one S. Rich
sells.
Dugan EK: NO!! Diane made it!
GarlandGrl: Yeah, and she remastered it
digitally :-)
MamaLion27: No, this is Diane own
rermastered work so it couldn't be the
same.
DIXC: From a different program??
Dugan EK: Today's young people are
terrifyingly clever!
DIXC: Glad to hear that.
MamaLion27: I think it is a selction from
various programs, isn't it?
DIXC: Sounds like it. So I'm sending for it
soon.
GarlandGrl: Good stuff! 8-)
GarlandGrl: We're not so clever, we're just
lucky ;-)
DIXC: 8-)
MamaLion27: i agree, Ginny. You were born
on the threshold of a whole new age of
technology!:-)
Dugan EK: I remember older people who
wouldn't dial phones -- they had to say
"Hello, Central" and have an operator get
them the number.
GarlandGrl: Yeah, the only thing we need is
better entertainment choices... :-D
Dugan EK: But we have many centuries of
entertainment choices -- not limited to what
is happening now.
MamaLion27: We have handed down ours
so you can know what good entertainment
is.. and good music!
GarlandGrl: Yeah, but my generation is
stuck. They're looking for stuff that is full of
sensationalism
GarlandGrl: Because we do have so much
technology, it seems like they can't slow
down.
Dugan EK: More quilting, fewer video games
--
GarlandGrl: ::Sigh:: The world unwinds with
Nelson and Jeanette... ;-)
MamaLion27: Yes and I find that Christmas
is much lovelier with their classic
Christmas songs!
GarlandGrl: Oh!! I never thought anyone
could sing "White Christmas" better than
Bing... but I cry every time I hear Nelson's
version.
GarlandGrl: *sap*
GarlandGrl: Hee hee
Dugan EK: Did I mention that my daughter in
D.C. was turning past a local religious
station that usually has stomp and shout
music, and they were playing Nelson singing
Christmas carolls -- several in a row?
MamaLion27: Now that my tree has arrived
(it comes UPS) I have gotten into hearing
Nelson's Christmas.
GarlandGrl: Really!?! Yay!!!
Dugan EK: A tree by UPS??
MamaLion27: Yep. I have been getting trees
from NC every year by UPS
GarlandGrl: Wow :-)
Dugan EK: How big?
MamaLion27: And they smell so good when
they are newly cut! Oh, 6' Fraser fir
Dugan EK: Oh, a LITTLE one -- :-)
MamaLion27: That always impresses the
driver. how they get that big tree in that
long box!
MamaLion27: Nelson singing White
Christmas and the smell of that tree is
heaven!
Dugan EK: I can imagine! I love his singing
Jingle Bells.
GarlandGrl: Awww ;-) Tis that!
GarlandGrl: There's a thing on Sintra Duets
on PBS here right now... wish, wish...
Nelson or Jeanette had been on his
television show.
Alicefaye3 has left the room.
GarlandGrl: Lets see... has anyone heard
anything about Nelson Eddy Dr?
GarlandGrl: At Hollywood Forever...
Dugan EK: No --
DIXC: They are still looking for more
money.
DIXC: Donations.
GarlandGrl: Ahhhh...
MamaLion27: I think they are hoping to get
enough money for that by September so
that it doesn't fall through.
GarlandGrl: There's still some time then...
:-)
Dugan EK: "Oh, to be rich instead of
beautiful--"
MamaLion27: Or to hit the lottery!
GarlandGrl: *grabs for topics* How about
Jeanette... anybody going to do anything
special this time around? Should we set up
some kind of special web event?
GarlandGrl: LOL
Dugan EK: Jim Parrish has a new book out,
confusingly called "Hollywood Divas" --
Turk's bio of J is "Hollywood Diva" singular.
He has a page or so on Jeanette --
alphabetically between Jennifer Lopez and
Madonna!
GarlandGrl: What if I sat some money aside
and bought something for a joint contest
through our websites... and... and... bring
more attention to us somehow (yes, this is
all coming from nowhere). Or something
that could bring donations to
DIXC: Suposedly there is some info in this
book concerning J & N.
GarlandGrl: Jeanette's Scholarship thing.
Dugan EK: Which book?
DIXC: Might be in the about the Diva's.
Will have to look up my source.
MamaLion27: Ginny, what is the name of
Jeanette's scholarship fund?
GarlandGrl: Ask Eleanor :-D
GarlandGrl: It's part of the estate, right?
GarlandGrl: Gene Raymond Trust, made a
grant of $1 million to establish a Performing
Arts Fund. The endowment fund will
provide five or more scholarships to vocal
arts performance majors
GarlandGrl: selected on a basis of need as
well as superior achievement or professional
potential in the area of light opera and
operetta.
GarlandGrl: Hee hee ;-)
GarlandGrl: That's what I mean...
GarlandGrl: It was made in Jeanette's name...
;-)
MamaLion27: Well, we could talk that up,
too, on our websites.
GarlandGrl: I wonder if it's possible to add to
it... since reading up on it, it is part of Gene
Raymond's trust.
MamaLion27: I am still trying to think up
ways to put their names out there so the
music will not be forgotten.
GarlandGrl: I wouldn't know..
GarlandGrl: Yeah, me too!
GarlandGrl: Anything that would draw
attention in a positive manner...
MamaLion27: Other than parading with
signs in the local malls!
GarlandGrl: :-D
MamaLion27: Of course, with the snow
here, I couldn't get out to do that!
GarlandGrl: We'd get rained out here ;-)
Maybe even struck by lightening...
MamaLion27: Well, when people come to
visit this Christmas, they are going to hear
a lot of Nelson!
MamaLion27: Come to think of it, none of
the J&N films featured Christmas scenes,
did they?
GarlandGrl: Nope
GarlandGrl: ::Sigh::
Dugan EK: Forgive me -- I've been trying to
find the exact name of the scholarship fund
-- guess I'll have to go on my website to see
--
GarlandGrl: Quite all right :-D
GarlandGrl: What shall we talk about on the
eve of my birthday next Sunday... ;-) So,
we will be organized from today on... and
I'll try to work up a new chat site with all the
transcripts, since I'm free of school.
GarlandGrl: O:-)
DIXC: Nelson sang silent night Xmas eve
in Balalaika
GarlandGrl: Oh yeah!!
GarlandGrl: There you go, Dick! You're one
up one us... :-D
Dugan EK: Well, I DO feel like I'm going
mad. I was sure I had posted the
announcement --
GarlandGrl: You did! I copied what I said
from your website ;-)
GarlandGrl: LOL
GarlandGrl: It's USC gets 1 million dollar
scholarship
DIXC: We could mention our Nelson Eddy
material memorabilia that perhaps
others would like to know about
MamaLion27: My favorite scene and I forgot
about it. Senior moment! And Ginny,
Happy Birthday now in case I disappear
from cyberspace!
Dugan EK: So why is it that, the harder I
look, the less I am able to find it?
ARGHHH!
GarlandGrl: Thanks Dorothy :-D
GarlandGrl: I like your idea, Dick. I think
that'd be fun!
MamaLion27: Yes, I like that, too, even
though I am a bit short in that category.
Alicefaye3 has entered the room.
GarlandGrl: Welcome back!
Alicefaye3: Thanks Ginny...you're so sweet
GarlandGrl: Maria, how about talking about
memorabilia next week?
DIXC: Just about everything is on E. K.
web site but ...
GarlandGrl: :-[
GarlandGrl: :-D
Alicefaye3: Sure...works for me! Even if it is
Christmas Eve...
DIXC: :-)
GarlandGrl: :-P
Alicefaye3: :-D
GarlandGrl: (for those who tuned late...
Christmas Eve is now the 22nd according to
me)
GarlandGrl: 8-D
DIXC: Better tell Santa
DIXC: :-D
GarlandGrl: Yeah, Rudolph is a good friend
of mine... he's been visiting me for the past
few days. We've shared a unique bond...
;-) Maybe he'll help me out.
DIXC: Oh DEER
Alicefaye3: He has a red nose...you've been
coughing up red stuff...
GarlandGrl: HA HA
GarlandGrl: LOL.. and I have a red nose...
don't forget that!
MamaLion27: I hope he can convince Santa
i need a new computer!
Alicefaye3: And red hair.
GarlandGrl: Yeah... 8-)
Alicefaye3: I hope I can convince Santa to
bring me Van Johnson....right Gins? Lol
;-)
GarlandGrl: LOL ;-) Right!
Dugan EK: Okay, found it. "On a rotating
three-year basis, it will fund the Jeanette
MacDonald Operetta, Workshop, and
Recital" -- ??
GarlandGrl: Ahhh... so do you think there's
any way we can donate to the trust fund?
DIXC: Have to go now. Hope all have
great holidays. :-)
GarlandGrl: Okay! You too, Dick!
GarlandGrl: Bye!
Alicefaye3: Night Dick!
DIXC: Bye.:-(
DIXC has left the room.
Dugan EK: Well, little elves, don't eat too
much Christmas pudding and stay warm and
dry! (Bad storms here.)
Alicefaye3: Night Eleanor!
GarlandGrl: Really? I hadn't noticed.. ;-)
GarlandGrl: Night Eleanor!!
GarlandGrl: Take care :-D
